The Birthplace of Democracy

One of the world's most ancient cities, Athens remains Europe's undisputed historical and cultural capital.
Head to Museum 'Atelier Spyros Vassiliou' and Technohoros Art Galleryfor some retail therapy. Museum-lovers will get to explore Acropolis Museum and Pandora Art Gallery. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Athens: Temple of Poseidon (in Sounio), Donkeysland (in Koropi) and Dasoktima Tatoiou (in Acharnes). And it doesn't end there: take a stroll through Plaka, stroll through Glyfada Beach, take in the exciting artwork at Eleni Marneri Galerie, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Lycabettus.

Aegina — 3 nights

Aegina is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf, 27km from Athens. Start off your visit on the 21st (Sun): kick back and relax at Moni Island Beach, see the interesting displays at Historical & Folklore Museum of Aegina, then stop by Mourtzis Traditional Sweets, and finally steep yourself in history at Temple of Aphaia. Keep things going the next day: look for all kinds of wild species at EKPAZ - Hellenic Wildlife Hospital, explore the ancient world of Temple of Apollo, then enjoy the sand and surf at Paralia Marathona, and finally don't miss a visit to Monastery of Saint Nectarios.

Traveling by ferry from Athens to Aegina takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry; or do a combination of taxi and ferry. In July, daily temperatures in Aegina can reach 91°F, while at night they dip to 75°F. On the 23rd (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can ride a ferry back home.
