Create an itinerary including Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre
An important geosite of the Azores UNESCO Global Geopark, Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre, features a thermal spring that feeds two natural pools with temperatures of 27 C (80 F) and 38 C (100 F). Before donning your bathing suite and bathing the warm waters, stop into the interpretation center to learn about the geological origins, geodiversity, and biodiversity of the Azores and to peruse the samples of endemic plant life and rocks. The onsite 320 m (960 ft) Water Spring Walking Trail provides a fine warmup for your soak in the geothermal pools surrounded by dense and diverse vegetation. To protect the ecologically fragile area from mass tourism, the center keeps guided under the auspices of one its own technicians. • An undoubtedly beautiful place with lush grounds. A very Jurassic feel. However, a lot of people are let in during each time slot so if you are claustrophobic like me it might make you uncomfortable.....  more

  • The top pool is cold, the bottom two are much better. We did a bunch of thermal pools. We did this one last. I wish we did it first. The pools in Furnas are much, much better. Great views nearby.

  • Beautiful plant life and cascading water and cultivated hot spring pools are available to those who purchase tickets in advance. Three pools of differing temperatures are easily accessed amidst a magical forest of lush greenery. Changing stalls and lockers are also conveniently available. A wonderful, novel experience!
  • You can cook eggs in the water. People are like eggs so you can cook yourself too! You can boil your eggs in the water for 1 30h! Fun! There was a lot of eggs in the hottest pool. Very much eggs. But in the waterfall pool there was only a few eggs. The mid warmest pool is the best for your eggs! Would recommend. Only minuses Too much eggs and a bit smelly from so many eggs.
