Dhumba lake is located in Mustang district of Nepal at an altitude of 2830 m. It is about 5.5 km west of Jomsom near the Thini village. The lake is about 150 meters long and 100 meters wide. The lake is fed by ice melt from Mount Nilgiri.
The lake is considered sacred by Buddhists and Hindu pilgrims. According to the legend, once the lake changed to red color. A Buddhist monk performed some rituals and turned it back to natural color. Due to the religious belief, the fishes of the lake is not consumed.

  • I was expecting to be bigger for some reason but however it is a stunning lake as it has beautiful colour to it but the most amazing thing about it is the back drop of mountains which are incredible.....  more

  • Short walk or drive from Jomsom.. its a beautiful place, however dwarfed by surroundings beauty of the mountains and terrain. Construction done around the place is tasteless and lacks aesthetic sense. Stop it!!
  • Very clear blue water, and a surprising sight: half of it was frozen due to the cold (went on December)! The lake, along with the mountains in the background, was one of the most beautiful (and incredibly photogenic) places I've been to. A must visit if you are traveling to Mustang!
