Create an itinerary including Lakshman Jhula Bridge
Walk across Lakshman Jhula Bridge to quickly get from one side of the Ganges River to the other. Before 1939, the only way to cross the river was by a bridge made of jute ropes. As floods happen on a regular basis here, a sturdier construction was needed to withstand the seasonal torrents. At one side of this suspension bridge, you can visit a temple filled with religious paintings and sculptures, while on the other you can explore a shrine known for elaborately carved icons of Hindu deities. The area around the bridge bustles with life, so do not expect any peace and quiet here. • The Jhula was shut and has been shut for past two years. It is quite serendipitous that I arrived in Rishikesh on Sivarathri. The whole place was agog with excitement, spilling people out of all...

  • This bridge is under construction right now, govt. authority is building glass bridge here. Historic bridge constructed in 1923 now has completed 100 years. The bridge was built exactly where Lakshman, crossed the river on jute ropes. A prominent bridge that saves a lot of time to commute. Market access on both the ends.
  • One of the main landmarks in Rishikesh. Its surrounding area is wonderful and divine. Lakshman Jhula is an iron suspension bridge across the Ganges. But at this time Lakshman Jhula is now closed and under construction.
