Shop at numerous local stores selling clothing, art, and jewelry from Icelandic designers at Laugavegur, one of the oldest shopping streets in the city. The street leads to hot springs where city women once took their laundry--hence the name "wash road." The street is also home to many cafes, bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. Keep an eye out for interesting street art, too. Note that this is one of Reykjavik's more expensive shopping areas. Use our Reykjavik day trip planner to add Laugavegur and other attractions to your Reykjavik vacation plans.

Our hotel, Alda, was on this street. Quick walk to the harbor and many different shops on this street. Highly recommend the Icelandic Restaurant for dinner!
