One of the world's most ancient cities, Athens remains Europe's undisputed historical and cultural capital.

Temple of Athena Nike and Temple of Poseidon are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get some historical perspective at Erechtheion and Temple of Hephaestus. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Athens: Dasoktima Tatoiou (in Acharnes), Panagia Faneromeni (in Vouliagmeni) and Scuba & Snorkeling (in Lagonisi). There's lots more to do: explore the world behind art at National Archaeological Museum, take an in-depth tour of Acropolis Museum, tour the pleasant surroundings at Philopappos Hill, and indulge in some culinary diversions at a local gastronomic tour.

If you are flying in from Spain, the closest major airport is Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport. In July, plan for daily highs up to 38°C, and evening lows to 28°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 31st (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
