Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel

Ponta Delgada ©
As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Caldeira das Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo. Take a break from the city and head to Poca Da Dona Beija and Fishing Charters & Tours. Explore Ponta Delgada's surroundings by going to Furnas (Caldeiras Vulcânicas & Parque Terra Nostra). And it doesn't end there: explore the activities along Furnas, get great views at Boca do Inferno Viewpoint, and make a trip to Islet of Vila Franca do Campo.

For more things to do, photos, where to stay, and tourist information, you can read our Ponta Delgada day trip tool.

Jerusalem, Israel to Ponta Delgada is an approximately 12.5- hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight, bus, and ferry. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 3 hours traveling from Jerusalem to Ponta Delgada. Plan for a bit cooler temperatures traveling from Jerusalem in August, with highs in Ponta Delgada at 30°C and lows at 21°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) so you can travel to Machico.
