One of the world's most ancient cities, Athens remains Europe's undisputed historical and cultural capital.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Acropolis of Athens and Ancient Agora of Athens. Explore hidden gems such as Temple of Hephaestus and Anafiotika. Take a break from Athens with a short trip to Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, about 1h 15 min away. Ancient Greeks revered Delphi as the center of their universe, building an impressive sanctuary to Apollo in order to mark this sacred spot.
Get a sense of the local culture at Delphi and Hosios Loukas. Temple of Apollo In Delphi and Byzantine Church of Agia Eleousa (Panagia Mavromantila) will appeal to history buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Delphi: Apollo temple (in Tholos) and Hani of Gravia (in Gravia). And it doesn't end there: get engrossed in the history at Delphi Archaeological Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of Tholos, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Ieros Naos Agiou Georgiou, and stroll through Itea Beach.

Getting from Athens to Delphi by car takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of train and taxi; or take a bus. Kalambaka

The gateway to one of the largest monastery complexes in Greece, the small town of Kalambaka nestles against a landscape of imposing rock formations rising 400 m (1,300 ft) into the air. Nearly leveled during World War II, the town rebuilt and reinvented itself in the post-war period, quickly becoming one of the region's major travel destinations.
You'll get in some beach time at Koutsoupia Beach and Platia Ammos Beach. Do some cultural sightseeing at Meteora and Varlaam Monastery. When in Kalambaka, make a side trip to see Agioi Saranta in Chorefto, approximately Chorefto away. There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Monastery of the Great Meteoron, pause for some serene contemplation at Byzantine Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary, and steep yourself in history at Roussanou Monastery.

Drive from Delphi to Kalambaka in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and train; or take a bus. In October, Kalambaka is slightly colder than Delphi - with highs of 22°C and lows of 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Fri) early enough to drive to Thessaloniki.

A city with a stormy history and a cosmopolitan heart, Thessaloniki attracts visitors with its diverse culinary scene, dynamic nightlife, and youthful energy.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ladadika District and Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki. Visit Rotunda and Hagios Demetrios for their historical value.
