Head to Barrio de Salamanca and Cava Baja Galleryfor some retail therapy. Get some historical perspective at Alcazar of Segovia and Catedral de Segovia. Get out of town with these interesting Madrid side-trips: Hoces del Rio Duraton Natural Park (in Sepulveda), Avila (The Walls of Avila, The Four Posts, &more) and Toledo (Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, MQM Museo del Queso Manchego Toledo, &more). There's lots more to do: admire the masterpieces at Prado National Museum, see the interesting displays at Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, wander the streets of La Latina, and pause for some serene contemplation at Royal Chapel of St. Anthony of La Florida.

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Step off the beaten path and head to Basilica de Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima and Batalha Monastery. For shopping fun, head to Rua Augusta or Avenida da Liberdade. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lisbon: Capela dos Ossos (in Evora), Museu de Aguarela de Alfredo Roque Gameiro (in Minde) and Quinta da Regaleira (in Sintra). There's still lots to do: explore the striking landscape of Parque Natural da Arrabida, shop like a local with Rossio Square, step into the grandiose world of Palacio Nacional de Mafra, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Monastery of Alcobaca.
