Fira

— 8 nights
Fira, the busy capital of Santorini, sits on the very edge of a volcanic caldera.
Popular historic sites such as Akrotiri and Ekklisia Panagia Platsani are in your itinerary. Museum of Prehistoric Thira and Naval Maritime Museum Oia Santorini will appeal to museum buffs. There's lots more to do: learn about winemaking at Santo Winery, relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, view the masterpieces at Eduart Gjopalaj Workshop, and enjoy the sand and surf at Perivolos.

To find other places to visit, where to stay, reviews, and tourist information, read our Fira holiday maker site.

Houston, USA to Fira is an approximately 18-hour flight. You'll lose 8 hours traveling from Houston to Fira due to the time zone difference. When traveling from Houston in December, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Fira: temperatures range from 60°F by day to 52°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 28th (Tue) to allow time for the flight back home.

Wine Island
Known for dramatic views and romantic sunsets, the island of Santorini draws visitors with its long string of black, white, and red beaches. The largest and most significant of a small group of volcanic islands located just 200 km (120 mi) southeast of Greece's mainland, Santorini boasts just over 15,000 permanent residents. Created by a massive volcanic eruption that likely destroyed a single large island, the archipelago still features an active volcano, which saw its last eruption in the 1950s. The easiest way to explore Santorini's craggy coastline is on foot. Start by visiting the archaeological sites on the island's southwestern side, which offer a chance to discover the area's ancient past with unobstructed views of the famed volcano.
