Sitting at an altitude of 3,718 meters (12,198 feet), the volcano and its base area make up the 18,900-hectare (46,720-acre) Teide National Park: a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited wonder in Spain. Hike the dry lava terrain of the volcano and enjoy sprawling views of the Tenerife shoreline before winding back down through the scenic park, which is also home to Los Roques de Garcia, a reef of rock formations formed by erosion. While the summit is accessible by bus, it’s best to bring a car to take advantage of the many hiking options and viewpoints. Stunning. Now you see it then you don't. Very haunting. Often shrouded in cloud but you can sometimes see the peak. Outstanding. A must see.
