Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial Reviews
This is one amazing place to visit, the scale is enormous and very well maintained. You are taken back by the size and grandure and the fact that it is over 400 years old. You need time to see... more »
A castle, a palace, a church, a library, a crypt. Very interesting and informative trip. The building may seem simple but it is very impressive. The crypt still awaits the remains of the last late... more »
Spain was our last country of a 2 week trip to Europe and we had nothing planned. Our hotel suggested El Escorial and we were completely amazed. They do not allow photographs anywhere except on the outside of the buildings, but when we were in the cathedral the security guard came up to me and told me I could take photos. The biblioteca is absolutely breath taking. We had just come from Rome and had seen the Sistine Chapel but when we stepped in here we were the only ones other than the security guards and it was so beautiful. It took us 2 hours to go through the whole thing but we were rushing because they were due to close. It was by far one of our favorite things we did on our 2 week trip. It is a must visit. When you are in all the apartments notice all the clocks they have tons of clocks I can’t remember how many they told us they have. You will not be disappointed and the price was very reasonable to go through the museum. I was traveling with2 adults and 4 children ages 7 to 14.
3 hours well spent even though we are not really into arts . The royal mausoleum was marvelous sectioned into a few chambers by the status of deceased. Very delicate marble carving. Downloaded audio guide on mobile and shared with my partner using wireless EarPods, a few indices are missing on the guide but no big deal...otherwise audio guide is available at the counter for 3 euro each. Private palace area offers a glimpse of how the royals lived in the palace... with all very nice tapestry hanging on the wall. Elaborate cathedral. Photos taking is not allowed in most places. 17 sites of interest altogether .. very well maintained. Would recommend anyone in the area to pop by and enjoy this glorious palace. Anyone with backpack will have to deposit it into cloakroom. Washrooms are handy.
