Sobrino de Botin, Madrid

4.0
Sobrino de Botin, founded in 1725, holds the Guinness Record for world’s oldest restaurant. It boasts quite a pedigree: Francisco de Goya worked here as a waiter and it’s mentioned in an Ernest Hemingway novel. For a special dinner out, consider the roast suckling pig, or, if you’ve partied until the early morning as Madrid’s residents often do, try the traditional garlic soup with a poached egg. The menu is available in English, and busy evenings here are accompanied by live music. Use our Madrid trip planner to add Sobrino de Botin and other attractions to your Madrid vacation plans.

  • This property is located on several levels. We had lunch at the sub floor in a very dark, damp room in the stone walls. Customers are many and you may find yourself to wait several minutes until the passage is free in order to access the toilet located on the 1st floor. L we had the suckling pig and roast lamb. The lamb was very good, the suckling pig blah blah. Potatoes accompanying everything were boiled, insipid and seemed to be cooked the day before! No! really, apart from see the framework, this restaurant is way too expensive for what it offers you in return! Take a picture of the outside, that's all

  • Restaurant famous for being the oldest in the world, but the food leaves something to be desired. Little variety and high prices for what it offers.

  • Come just to say you've been to the oldest restaurant in the world but don't stay for the food. Extremely over priced and bland. We ordered the house menu which was 46 euros per person.. It came with what was supposed to be a garlic soup..i honestly don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that. Just couldn't taste any garlic and had a bread pudding consistency.. It was honestly difficult to stomach. The main course was the suckling pig and three potatoes and although the pork was juicy inside and crispy outside.. It was completely unseasoned and just wasn't worth 46 euros. The best part of the whole meal was the ice cream which they take away from you before you can finish. I was super unimpressed by this place. I don't think the 110 euro bill was worth it. I definitely wouldn't refer this restaurant to anyone. Sorry Hemingway!
  • Authentic and traditional simple Spanish food with a unique ambience where you can sit within a "small stone carved area underground" to enjoy the historic magnificence of this place's menu. The food is simply flavoured since traditionally , food simply prepared this way 300+ years ago The waiters are all dressed up traditionally as well, looking very smart. Great experience
