  • We are facing a construction with little tourist interest, which will surely have gone unnoticed before your eyes... while walking along the BEAUTIFUL AND EXTENSIVE STREET OF ALCAL.

  • As tourists will pass ahead of it and you will hardly notice you will notice that this there. Not the attention despite being raised in the 18th in the middle of the illustration (reign of Carlos III) and by one of the best architects of the time (Sabatini). Former Customs House and current Ministry of Finance.. It Has a museum area that you can visit... Spectacular dome of the library.. The underserves still preserve practically its original state and has a good archive of incunabula.

  • The old Customs House, also known as Customs Vieja, was built in 1645 in the missing square of the Firewood, today replaced by the street of the Bag. It was Not a very notable house and its offices in principle had the capacity to carry out the functions of its activity, although they were soon overwhelmed by the increasing number of powers that were subsequently entrusted to it. Thus, during the EIGHTEENTH century he took over the different Directorates of General and Provincial Revenues of the kingdom and of the no less important stagnant income of the Crown (tobacco, salt, cards, spirits, glass, etc.). Seeing the need for a more spacious and better-read building, Carlos III commissioned Francisco Sabatini in 1761 to build a new customs house in Alcalá Street. The Building, whose works concluded in 1769, had been conceived as an Italian palace but without neglecting the functional character required by the institution. The Exterior presented a facade of good proportions topped with balustrade, composed of a padded plinth and the succession of different orders of windows and pediments arranged with order and symmetry. The Interior was organized around three large courtyards, two of them separated by a spacious lobby that communicated with a double-spill staircase, and had spacious dependencies and large basements that served at the same time for warehouses.
