Museo del Aire, Madrid

Military history and aircraft enthusiasts appreciate Museo del Aire, a national aviation museum housing hundreds of weapons, documents, and aircraft. Learn about more than 20 planes and helicopters on display, most of them ex-military, and watch for the Cessna 310--the space suit used by Cuba's first cosmonaut. When you're finished viewing the indoor exhibitions, head out back to see the Granma Memorial, a glass structure featuring the yacht that transported Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries from Mexico to Cuba for the revolution. The outdoor displays also feature a Soviet tank destroyer and the engine of a U.S. Lockheed U-2 spy plane shot down during the Cuban Missile Crisis. • A good number of historical aircraft in excellent conservation conditions mostly on the outside, and also several ships with smaller aircraft and with full-scale dioramas, engines and navigation equipment. Really very good museum. The only thing to improve is the souvenir shop, which is quite poor in offer, and the cafeteria.

  • It is a very curious and entertaining place to visit with children or without them, some planes are a little damaged but it is worth going to see the evolution of the planes

  • Amazing museum!! Great selection of different aircrafts, helicopters etc. Worth to go early in the morning as the museum closes at 2pm. They offer free guided tours however must be booked in advanced over the phone. Highly recommend to everyone, kids and adults!
  • This is a must for anybody remotely interested in aviation and visiting Madrid. The collection and it's diversity is staggering. It looks like nearly every type flown in the Spanish Air Force has been preserved. The collection is constantly being maintained and painted. The quality is very high and the early pioneers of flight us a great exhibit. There is a shop and this is full of aviation related merchandise. It's free to enter and we gave a donation. It's open from 10:00 till 14:00 and you need to get there early to get the most out of your visit. I want to go back as you can see more is being added.
