  • The museum is very well placed, has several very interesting temporary exhibitions. I saw the codex of Mine Cid and I get quite excited

  • The library museum is located in the main headquarters of the National Library of Madrid, in paseo de Recoletos, near Plaza Colon; you can enter from the entrance on the ground floor, at the sx of the staircase that rises to the entrance to the library or, if you are already inside the library, from a staircase that descends to the museum. Admission is free and the museum is open daily from 10a.m. to 8 p.m., except for Sundays that close at 2 p.m. In its internal exhibition rooms are exhibited ancient books, prints, but above all many objects related to the history of book, writing and in general communication. There are very interesting pieces, such as gramophones that played music through perforated discs, like the old cards of the first computers: I had stopped at 78 laps and did not know that before vinyl there was this system (how ignorant that I am!). I also particularly appreciated the impromptu exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Battista Piranesi, architect/engraver whom I confess not to know (my ignorance has no limits), but whose many engravings exhibited here, of which many are landscapes and places of the city of Rome, fascinated me. The exhibition runs until 22 September 2019.

  • Interesting, but a pity the content is only in Spanish
  • To be honest the museum, in terms of collection, was average. I've added two stars because of the staff. The lady on reception/information desk was fantastic. She - will find out her name next time - went out of her way to help and direct us in an unobtrusive and charming way. Her English was perfect as was her helpful and friendly attitude. A credit to the institution. Friendly and helpful guard on security duty too. As others have mentioned it's aimed at Spanish speaking visitors so fluency is needed as exhibits are labeled in this language only.
