  • This monument stands in tribute to Francisco Goya, the Spanish romantic painter and printmaker. The bust is located not far from the Goya Metro station at a busy intersection. Which makes it difficult to get a good close look. It's somewhat unassuming compared to the other monuments to the great man, in Madrid. Not really much of a tribute to the great man. Don't go out of the way, but worth a quick detour if for example visiting the nearby Plaza de Salvador Dali.
  • Busto de Francisco de Goya: Around Madrid, likenesses of Goya (Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes - 30/03/1746 - 16/04/1828) can be found, but only the head is on display in the shopping / residential area of Goya. Not a statue, but a bust. I always find English funny. This bust is only the head, not like a woman’s bust haha. Anyway, placed to overlook the junction of Goya on the Calle de Alcalá & Calle de Goya, this bust seems like it’s always been there, but it only dates back to 1997. It was unveiled on 23rd June 1998. This bronze sculpture, that sits on a white granite pedestal, is the creation of Víctor Ochoa. The monument is 3m high. It cost almost 22 million Spanish pesetas (approx 130,000€). Find the metal plaque on the ground & you may be surprised who paid for it. The image below can be explored further, in the 360º version, taken with the Christmas lights.
