  • It was he who was in the area of a large writer. It is sitting in a dignified figure, and the decoration of the plate of the pedestal is splendid. It was nice to meet Madrid.

  • This statue stands in tribute to Pedro Calderón de la Barca, a Spanish dramatist, poet and writer during the Spanish Golden Age. He left a legacy of operas and plays that are essential reading of Spanish literature. The statues depicts a seated Calderon, dressed in the habit of the Order of Santiago, with his two arms resting on a book. Behind him is a sculpture of a muse and on either side of his seat is theatre masks in allusion to his plays. The statue is located in the Plaza de Santa Ana, itself a pretty and popular public square with lots of cafes and restaurants. The statue is sited just in front of the Madrid Reina Victoria hotel, which provides a stunning backdrop for any photos of the statue.
  • Calderón de la Barca is the best representative of the Spanish Baroque Theatre. Deep Author, he knew how to reflect on the human condition and the avatars of his time. Of restless Spirit, he knew how to transcend the monotony of everyday life and read the existence from the light of the Christian faith he professed. Especially critical of the injustices born of class privileges and the obsession for honor. It Is worth highlighting the exquisite psychology of its characters. Especially women. Who distance themselves from the poor stereotype of "weak sex." An Interesting detail of this monument, are the reliefs present in its base. THE attentive observer will discover scenes of the most acclaimed works of the author, as The Mayor of Zalamea and life is Dream.
