Paco de Lucía station completes extension of Line 9 of the Madrid Metro. It is located in fare Zone A and brings Metro to 50000 new potential users. It opened on 25 March 2015 and it makes station #301 of the Metro Madrid network. Its name was given after Spanish musician and guitarist Paco de Lucía, a resident in the district where the station is located, who died in 2014.Originally the plan was to call it Costa Brava station (following the name of the street of Madrid in which it is located), but after the death of this famous artist the Transport Authorities decided to change its name as a way to pay tribute to this artist. The new station, also has a special feature that makes it unique in Spain and this is that it is the case of the first Metro station decorated with street art, specifically a great 300-square metre mural representing the face of the brilliant Cadiz born guitarist. Street artists Okuda and Rosh333, with the cooperation of architect Antonyo Marest, under the supervision of Madrid Street Art Project, are responsible for creating this impressive mural, which presides over the forecourt of the new station.Users will be able to transfer to Cercanías (suburban commuter trains) when the future transport interchange building opens by mid-2016.Put Estacion de Paco de Lucia into our Madrid trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
