#88 of 1,618 in Things to do in Madrid
Founded by a group of artists in 1880 and reorganized during the Movida in 1983, Circulo de Bellas Artes has served as an integral hub of art, education, and culture in Madrid since its inception. The nonprofit arts center houses vast collections of visual art, as well as its own cinema, theater, and radio station. Enjoy foreign and independent films in their original languages, or attend a concert, play, or presentation. The 1926 building, designed by the architect Antonio Palacios, is as emblematic as the art within it. The modern rooftop lounge is a popular place to have a cocktail while enjoying panoramic views of the city--it has a relaxed vibe and plenty of seating. People watchers will enjoy lunch at La Pecera (The Fishbowl), which boasts premium views of the Calle Alcalá through floor-to-ceiling windows. Circulo de Bellas Artes is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Madrid Edition.

  • Place with a beautiful view and a super nice climate. The restaurant is also excellent, but indicated to make reservation. Great for the end of the day!

  • This without exaggerating: 1 hour to give table, half an hour to order the first dish, another half hour to bring it and so on; it was an eternal lunch, but it gave us a lot of laughter. Food is not particularly recommended, although the price is also not exaggerated. The living room is elegant and noisy, but once you get a table there is plenty of time to rest your feet.

  • Incredible view from the rooftop! A bit pricey overall- 4€ to get to the rooftop and anywhere from 5-15€ for a drink, but well worth it for the view. Filled to the brim with tourists (like me) but a fun atmosphere.
  • Spectacular views, particularly at sunset. Will have to pay 4 Euro entry, but definitely worth it. Make sure you get there early as there is a long line to get to the top before sunset. Luckily they don’t let too many people up at a time, so it’s really nice and relaxing.
