Avenida da Liberdade
Modeled after the Champs-Elysees in Paris, Avenida da Liberdade serves as the main boulevard and walkway in Lisbon. Flanked on either end by Restauradores Square and Marquis of Pombal Square, this 90 m (295 ft) wide avenue was built in 1879. Spend your day visiting the designer shops that line this street, such as Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and Tods, and relax at charming cafes along the way. Stroll down the beautiful mosaic path under the shade of tall trees, take a seat by elegant fountains and lush gardens, or view historical mansions and exhibitions on the famous avenue. The area is also home to the Monument to the Heroes of the Great War, which honors the 40,000 Portuguese soldiers who fought in World War I.
