Learn about life at the frontier of the Roman Empire at Aquincum Museum. Located on the edge of the empire, the city of Aquincum was an important administrative and military center. It was part of the elaborate border protection system designed to keep barbarians out of the Roman world. Visit the museum to take in the city's history and explore one of the largest archeological collections in Hungary. The neoclassical main building is surrounded by partially reconstructed ruins that give you a sense of the city's layout. You can also see a fully reconstructed Roman house. Take a guided tours, which are given in English, French, and German. Be sure to book your spot in advance. Plan my day in Budapest using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Inspirock.

  • I enjoyed the place but I will come back with more time. My opinion is that if you really want to enjoy the museum, you need to go with time to read everything, because what you will see will not be enough to captivate you. Please don’t misunderstand me, I don’t say that the ruins are not interesting, what I say is that if you have the time to read what were those ruins back then, you will be able to see their beauty.
  • Very detailed explanations in English also, great additions since we're there ten years ago. There's a car park, by bus use No. 34. There is coffee machine and snack dispenser only, no cafe. Card payment is available. The cashier lady's very nice, friendly and helpful.
