Archaeological Site of Delos, Delos

#1 of 9 in Things to do in Delos
Hop on a ferry to see Archaeological Site of Delos, the birthplace of twins Apollo and Athena--the god of light and the goddess of wisdom. The entire island is uninhabited and serves as an archaeological site, so explore at your leisure. Climb to the top of the highest hill for a panoramic view of the surrounding sea and nearby islands. Take photographs of the famous stone lions that grace the road leading to the three temples of Apollo, and at the museum view some of the artifacts discovered in what is now a World Heritage Site. Consider hiring a guide in advance to help you understand what you are seeing. Shade is limited, and the cafe on the island is pricey, so bring a hat, sunscreen, water, and snacks. Use our Delos trip planner to arrange your visit to Archaeological Site of Delos and other attractions in Delos.

  • Amazing historical site with loads to see. A great deal of work had gone into conservation and preservation. Obviously this was a hugely important place a long time ago. There are 2 routes to follow.. The blue is supposed to take 1.5 hrs and the green 3 hrs... Though with kids we did the latter in just over two and geeky we saw pretty much all that there was to see. A great day out. Unmissable.
  • Just spectacular. The site is maintained in order to show how the full "city" of Delos was constructed. You can see the houses of the people but also the temples they had built to worship their Gods. Just beautiful
