Hellenic Parliament, Athens
Guarded by soldiers dressed in traditional attire, monumental Hellenic Parliament originally served as the official residence of Otto, the first modern king of Greece. Home to the country's supreme democratic institution since 1934, the building sits on the eastern side of a major public square in Athens. Built in the 1830s following the design of Bavarian architect Friedrich von Gartner, the building remains one of the city's major architectural treasures. The formal changing of the guards, an elaborate event resembling a slow and carefully choreographed dance, happens on the hour. Have to appreciate the time and effort that goes into the timing and precision these soldiers do when undertaking ceremonial duties. They are a credit to their country and very well disciplined, can't fault the blokes.
Great place to see the guards (tsoliades) when they change. This happens every 3 hours so you need to be lucky to be there when it happens. 11:00 in the morning they change the guards and as I ‘ve read on Sunday’s at 11:00 is more spectacular than other days. A great thing to see whether you are a tourist or a local. It lasts about 10’
